Useful Information
Road conduct

We have a very good relationship with the locals. They are genuinely happy to see cyclists, and the drivers are considerate and careful. Let’s keep  it that way please. Be respectful and we'll keep  this place  a cycling haven.

The roads are generally very good, and there are some beautiful descents. There are some bends which come up unexpectedly. But don't worry. Our leaders will let you know at the time.

We will see very little or no traffic. But please don’t take risks. Don’t go hammering through villages or past junctions. If you see a  pedestrian give them plenty of space. Please be courteous at all times.

Bikes
Your rides are fully supported , but please check over your bike before you come . If you’re going to  have your bike serviced or change any parts, please  don’t leave it to the night before departure!

There are  many hills with average gradients of 7-8%. Some quite long.  In places they go over 10%.   Have appropriate gears for long  hilly rides.  With a 11-23 cassette   your probably going to struggle. If you need advice  on this, please ask.

We have tools, track pumps, bike stands and  spares; tubes, tyres, brake pads and chains. We also carry spare parts, wheels and  have spare bikes in case the worst happens. You will  have help for bike set up  when you arrive. The only thing we advise you bring is a spare rear gear hanger, because it's the only thing that is particular to your bike.

Tools and Spares
Fitness
You are the best judge of your own ability, and you will also be aware of the standard of others on your trip. But if you have any concerns or you need more help or advice on preparation for your trip,  please get in touch. Remember that on bespoke trips the routes are designed for your group, and you will have full support. Please check the routes and profiles before you book.
Insurance

Please check  your Travel Insurance, particularly  emergency medical cover  and repatriation.          ( Please send us your Policy number and emergency telephone number  before departure. )

Helmets

You are expected to ware a cycling helmet whilst cycling.

Clothing

Bring all your usual cycling kit. I won’t bore you with a list, except to say remember your cycling shoes.  Most other things we can sort. A windproof jacket can be useful, especially on some of the long descents. Swim suit is essential!

Money

Most places take cards. But you won’t really need much money because you will only need money for alcoholic drinks and coffee stops in tavernas. There is a cash point in Fiscardo near where we stay.

This photo was taken this morning. Blue sea, blue sky, and snow on the mountains in the distance.     Beautiful!

By mid April when the season gets underway, there is an average of 10 hours of sunshine a day.

We run trips with a minimum of 8 riders, but have had lots of enquires from smaller groups or individuals. If you are a small group of 4 for example, we would be happy to organise a trip around your requirements, and are confident we can find others to make up the numbers. If you are a group, couple or an individual interested in this, then please let us know.

Around Fiscardo there are also so many beautiful beaches, tavernas to relax in, sparkling sea in which to swim , and marked walking routes. There are also some really interesting and important archaeological sites and amazing views. Kefalonia is not just a cycling paradise.

Sometimes partners might come out and join us for lunch, and we have some amazing places for food and coffee stops. And we often go over to Ithica for a ride and that’s a beautiful place for sightseeing, and cycling too. Kefalonia is not just a cycling paradise!
